Inmate Found Dead in County Jail After 'Apparent Suicide,' Police Say

The South Carolina woman, who has family in Wisconsin but not in the area, was found dead just four days after being arrested.

A 41-year-old inmate at the Ozaukee County Jail was found dead on Sunday morning, and police believe she committed suicide.

Sheriff deputies responded to the cell where Bridget Moorehead, of Charleston, South Carolina, was being housed at 7:50 a.m. Sunday after the discovery of the "apparent suicide," according to a press release. Moorehead was being held in a single cell housing unit at the Ozaukee County jail.

Moorehead was taken into custody on Wednesday by the Mequon Police Department. Ozaukee Sheriff's Lt. Christy Knowles said the woman had come to Wisconsin with her boyfriend, and the two had been arrested for a battery, domestic-violence related incident.

Moorehead had made an initial appearance in court, but was unable to post the $500 bond, Knowles said. Moorehead has family in Wisconsin, but not this area, she added. A second court date had been scheduled for June 12.
