Lightning Strike Likely Cause of Saukville Fire

Multiple departments respond to early morning blaze; damage limited to garage.

A garage at a home at 650 Dries Street in Saukville was destroyed in a fire early Monday morning.

Saukville Fire Chief Gilly Schultz said it appears the blaze was caused when lightning struck the roof of the garage.

Schultz said a man living at the house told firefighters that he heard lightning hit at about 5:30 a.m. but then went back to bed. However, he was awakened about a half hour later by neighbors pounding at the door, telling him the garage was on fire, Schultz said.
