Tosa Man Who Fell in Port Marina was Under the Influence, Police Say

Port Washington police rescued a 61-year-old Wauwatosa man who fell from his boat into the Port Washington marina on Sunday night.

A 61-year-old Wauwatosa man rescued from the Port Washington marina on Sunday night was also issued a citation for operating his boat while under the influence.

Port Washington police responded to a 911 call at about 5:45 p.m. about a man who had fallen into the marina, according to the police report. Witnesses say the man's boat struck a pier as it was preparing to dock; the man then attempted to tie his bow off and that is when witnesses heard the "splash" as the 61-year-old fell into the water.

Officers were unable to merely pull the man from the water, and instead used flotation devices to keep his head above water until fire department divers were able to enter the water and assist in lifting him out of the water, the police report said.

A Port Washington ambulance transported the man for medical treatment and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was contacted to assist in the investigation.

TODAY'S TMJ4's tower camera captured the rescue; the man was in the hospital Monday morning recovering from hypothermia, TMJ4 reports.

I suspect he was tying his "boat" off, not his "bow". Voice recognition software HAS come a long way, regardless!

Actually, it was a sailboat which has a stern and a bow. The man successfully tied off the stern and was attempting to tie off the bow when he fell in.

Did he fall off the port or starboard side? Did the rescuers take a bow? He'll get more than a stern warning for being drunk. I could go on for days...
