Port Washington Officer Tom Kajtna took home a blue ribbon award for his years of work with bullying and abuse in the schools and community.

Port Washington Police Officer Tom Kajtna took home a blue ribbon award for his years of work with bullying and abuse in the schools and community.

Kajtna said he does not know who nominated him for the award through the Youth and Family Project (which serves Ozaukee, Washington and Waukesha counties), but said it comes "in consideration for my years as school resource officer working with children and families and it was just for … if you will ... doing my job.

"As always I'm here to help people, and those very vulnerable in our community … I'm here to provide protection to whoever needs it," he said.

Kajtna was also quick to point to those in the department who he works with on a daily basis to meet the team goal of quality police work and protection.

"When I worked in the school and things came up, it wasn't just me — it was our schools and human services.  A lot of good people with their hearts in the right place," he said.
