PD: Neighbor 'Had No Say' in Decision to Trim Trees, Port Woman Tells Police

A Port Washington woman recently took a property line dispute into her own hands, telling police her status as a "fifth-generation Wisconsinite" gave her more decision power, according to police reports.

Port Washington police responded to a call at 4:16 p.m. Sept. 24 from a Port man and resident of West Larabee Street, according to the police report. The man called to tell police a tree on his property had been cut without permission.

Upon arrival, police noticed the large tree that "had been trimmed from the ground level all the way up roughly thirty-five feet," the police report said. The resident told police the tree was on his property, and he did not give anyone permission to do this. There were also tree branches and debris scattered in the yard.

Police went to speak with the neighbor sharing the property line with the caller. The woman told police that the tree was on the property line, according to police reports, but the officer said he wouldn't know without a survey.

The woman admitted to hiring a tree service to trim the branches. She also told police that her neighbor was a "Eastern European," and because she is a "fifth-generation Wisconsinsite, she felt that he had no say in this" matter, the report said. The woman said the tree company would be back to clean up.

Officers returned to the callers' home and explained what happened. The caller did not make a fuss, but said he wished she would have spoken to him first.
