Pedestrian at Fault for Person-Vehicle Accident in Port

A 13-year-old Port Washington boy was hit by a vehicle while crossing the street in front of Tellos.

A 13-year-old Port Washington boy hit by a vehicle while crossing the street in front of Tellos was found to blame for the incident, though no citation was issued.

The driver, a 21-year-old Port Washington man, was westbound on Grand Avenue when the vehicle in front of him started to park, according to police reports. The man drove his vehicle around the parking car.

At the same time, the 13-year-old boy was leaving the Tellos driveway to cross the street and ran into the vehicle, the report said. The driver immediately pulled over and called 911, then ran to check on the boy.

Officers spoke to the boy, telling him to lay still until an ambulance arrived, police reports said. When initially asked what happened, the boy said the last thing he remembered was sleeping.

In speaking with the boy's parents, officers eventually learned that the boy had taken his bike to go to a friend's house, and when he got near Tellos he decided he needed to use the bathroom, the report said. He left his bike at the restaurant with the intention of running to the gas station across the street.

The driver was given a breathalizer that came back at zero; the boy suffered contusions to his head, but his CAT scan showed no further problems.
