Port Man Charged After Taking Mom's SUV Without Permission

Suspect also facing charges in connection with theft from Anita's Garden residents.

A 30-year-old Port Washington man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly took his mother’s SUV without permission so he could drive to a friend’s house in Mequon.

Zachry K. Zirtzlaff, 445 W. Grand Ave., Unit 201, was charged in Ozaukee County Circuit Court on Tuesday with one count of operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, one count of felony bail jumping and one count of operating a motor vehicle after revocation of his license. If convicted, he could face up to 13 years in prison and $22,500 in fines.

Zirtzlaff’s mother called police Jan. 2 after he took her SUV without her permission; she also expressed concerned that he’s using drugs. Police discovered the SUV one hour later while it was parked in Hickory Court in Port Washington.

Zirtzlaff was arrested and told police he took the car after his mother said he couldn’t drive it and was planning to go to a friend’s house in Mequon.

Zirtzlaff had been released from custody after paying bail in connection with charges allegeding .

He’s currently being held again in Ozaukee County Jail on $2,500 cash bond.
