Port PD: Drunk Man Rings Doorbell, Assaults Homeowner

A roundup of the latest activity from the police blotter also includes Middle School girls in a fight and a man really desperate for a cigarette.

A Port Washington couple was disrupted in the middle of the night to an unpleasant — and drunken — surprise.

Someone rang the doorbell at 11:32 p.m. Sept. 29 to a home on West Walters Street, according to Port Washington police report. The residents, a woman and her husband, had been in bed when the person came to the door. The husband went to see who it was, and found a 43-year-old Port man, who was drunk and trying to enter the home.

The drunk man assaulted the husband, the report said, and the wife called 911.

  • Mean girls: Port Washington police were called to Thomas Jefferson Middle School at 8:49 a.m. Sept. 27 because several girls were "ready to fight," according to a police report. When officers arrived, they learned two girls were upset because two other girls were blaming them for prank calls and texts — which the first two girls said they didn't do. Police warned all the girls to stop this behavior, and that court action would be necessary if it continued.
  • Um, addicted? Police responded to the area of KMC Stamping, 1221 S. Park St., after a suspicious man was noticed trespassing in the area. Police spoke to the 42-year-old Port man, who admitted to going on the property but said he was just hunting for cigarette butts as he did not have enough money to buy his own pack.
