Port PD: Neighbor Worries About Idling Car, Driver on Cell Phone

A roundup of recent activity from the police blotter also includes a mailbox being hit and a misdialed 911 call.

Oh, the dangers of being behind the wheel looking at a phone.

Police received a call at 6:34 a.m. Nov. 21 in the 900 block of West Lincoln Avenue, when a resident noticed a vehicle that had been running for approximately 30 minutes, according to police reports.

It was found that the vehicle owner was on her phone checking Facebook and texting around the corner from her residence, the report said.

She told police that she did not want to park in her driveway, because she feared her dog would bark and wake up the neighbors.

  • Property damage: A resident in the 800 block of Hales Trail called police at 1:47 p.m. Nov. 21 when her mailbox had been run over by an unknown vehicle. There were no auto parts or paint transfer left at the scene. At this time, there are no suspects.
  • Apartment Fight: Port police received a 911 call at 1:07 a.m. Nov. 23 about a physical fight in the 1500 block of Portview Drive. Police issued citations to a 24-year-old man and 31-year-old man for disorderly conduct.
  • 911 misdial: Police received a misdialed 911 call at 1:27 p.m. Nov. 23 from a Port Washington man who was trying to reach his insurance company. He accidently dialed his insurance card member number that starts with 911.
  • Driveway crash: Port police responded to a car accident at 10:13 a.m. Nov 24 in the 400 block of North Franklin Street. A 60-year-old resident backed her car into the vehicle of a 24-year-old lady. Information was exchanged between the two parties. Β 
  • Weird call: Police received a call from a Port resident at 5:55 a.m. Nov. 19 of a suspicious noise in a home in the 800 block of Glenlyon Lane. It was believed to be wind catching the door to the small flat roof of the residence.
