Port Police Report: Beware of the Defrosting Freezer

A roundup of the latest activity from the police blotter.

Perhaps it was Frosty the Snowman's handiwork or the Abominable Snowman's ultimate plan of attack — but either way, this frosty situation had one Belguim woman worried.

Police responded to a call at 11:29 p.m. Jan. 10 of a loud, thumping noise in the 100 block of East James Drive. The 47-year-old Belgium woman who called police said the noise was coming from the building's basement.

Police were able to determine the noise was occurring because of a defrosting freezer located in the basement.

  • Maybe they can't read? A group of Port Washington teenagers were apparently trying to get a better view at 3:25 p.m. Wednesday when police spotted them doing something they shouldn't be. The group — made up of two 19-year-old Port men and one 18-year-old Port woman — had decided to climb on the lighthouse, despite the fact that it clearly states, "no trespassing." They were cited for — drum roll please — trespassing. Here's your sign.
  • Who let the dogs out? Maybe the pup was just trying to arrange a block party at 4:10 p.m. Saturday, when a neighbor reported a dog out and about with no owner in site. Police responded to the 300 block of Thomas Drive and found the owner, a 36-year-old Port woman, who said the dog got loose when she was entering her vehicle. She was warned for dog at large. Wonder when the party is?
  • Parking lot hit-and-run driver gets away: Police responded to a two-vehicle accident at 2:32 a.m. Jan. 8 in the parking lot behind 114 N. Franklin St. The 37-year-old Belgium man, who had been driving a 2009 Chevrolet, told police that a second car had hit his, taking off the passenger side mirror. The two cars were both backing up at the time of the collision, and the driver of the second car — described as a white F250 with cap and no known plate — drove away.
