Port Police to Drive Propane-Fueled Squads

Port Washington police officers will soon be driving squad cars using a propane-fueled system.

The Common Council approved the conversion, which will cost about $26,800, last week, according to an Ozaukee Press article. The department is paying about $3.38 per gallon of gas, but propane costs only $1.47 and a 30 percent credit will drop the cost to just $1.

This change would have saved the department about $16,000 last year, the article said. The vehicles will still operate at the same level of efficiency.Β
