Port Washington Police Report: There is a Thief Among Us

A roundup of the latest activity from the police blotter.

Greedy shoppers with five-finger-discount budgets have hit Port Washington.

The Port Washington Police Department received reports of seven thefts, one attempted burglary and one report of theft and fraud since Thursday.

At 3:11 p.m. Saturday, a 37-year-old Port Washington man reported witnessing two male juveniles attempting to enter a residence on Lakeview Avenue through a window. The man approached the two, but they ran from the area.

At 1:34 p.m. Thursday, a 50-year-old Port Washington man reported having sold a bracelet online but never being paid.

At 4:14 p.m. Thursday, a 34-year-old Port Washington man reported a 20-inch Mongoose bike taken from the front of his house on Monroe Street.

At 5:39 p.m. Thursday, a 31-year-old Port Washington woman reported a GPS unit stolen from her vehicle parked at her residence in on Second Avenue. At 6:27 p.m. Thursday, a 48-year-old Port Washington woman reported loose change stolen from her vehicle, parked also at her residence on Second Avenue.

And, no, that is not where the “shopping spree” ends.

At 9:43 p.m. Thursday, a 27-year-old Port Washington woman reported her wedding ring had been stolen from her house on Montgomery Street.

Moving on to Saturday, a vendor at festival reported a female subject stealing a lighter from her booth at 3:28 p.m. Saturday. Officers tracked down the suspect, but did not find the lighter.

At 4:46 p.m. Saturday, two 14-year-old Port Washington girls told police that a bag containing personal items was stolen while the two were swimming in Lake Michigan.

And to top it all off, at 5:32 p.m. a 39-year-old Port Washington resident reported a pink Bratz scooter was stolen from the hallway outside her apartment on Wesport Drive.

Not all stories have happy endings, but these could if someone would come forward with more information about the thefts. People with information will remain anonymous by calling 262-268-7682. Messages left on the hotline are checked regularly throughout the day, and callers providing tips leading to arrests are eligible for a $50 reward.
