Stabbing Suspect: "I Told Him the First Time I See Him, I'd Kill Him"

Defendant waives right to preliminary hearing; new date set to discuss possible plea bargain.

Police officers pushed Anthony D. Peters by wheelchair into an Ozaukee County Circuit Courtroom on Monday, where the suspect then waived his right to a preliminary hearing in connection with a Feb. 23 stabbing inside the store in Saukville.

Adrian Renner, Peters' attorney, had requested a comptency evaluation at a ; the court declared Peters' competency on Monday.

Ozaukee County Circuit Judge Tom Wolfgram explained to Peters what waiving the preliminary hearing would mean, to verify that the suspect was ready to move forward on the motion.

"I don’t even really care," Peters said. "Honestly, at the first chance I get — I’d kill the son of a (expletive). I told him the first time I see him, I’d kill him."

Peters, 28, of 617 Montgomery St., Port Washington, , 54, of Port. Fosco underwent surgery for a stab wound to the lower abdomen at the Aurora Medical Center in Grafton, according to Saukville Police Chief Bill Meloy.

Renner appeared in court with her client but declined to comment to a reporter. During the proceedings, Renner mentioned a plea offer from the state but did not reveal any details.

Peters is charged with first-degree attempted homicide. It is not unusal for the state to offer a reduction to a lesser charge in exchange for a guilty plea to avoid a lengthy trial.

The next hearing is set for 10:45 a.m. April 6 to discuss changing Peters' plea.

It was unclear why Peters came to court in a wheelchair.
