Tyler Buczek's Body Recovered in Lake Michigan on Thursday

Tyler Buczek, a 15-year-old Port Washington boy, went missing in Lake Michigan mid-afternoon on Sunday. Authorities searched until dark on Sunday, and again on Monday. His body was found around noon Thursday.

Tyler Buczek's body was recovered from Lake Michigan on Thursday after the teen went missing while swimming Sunday.

At approximately noon Thursday, authorities found his body about 200 yards off shore from the Water Treatment Plant in 10 to 12 feet of water, according to a press release from the .

Buczek had been swimming off North Beach with a group of friends when the current took him. He went missing at 2:39 p.m., according to Ozaukee dispatchers.

Though the official was "indefinitely suspended" on Monday night, Port Washington Fire Chief Mark Mitchell said local law enforcement officers were still searching when they had time and the weather permitted.

A team went out on Tuesday night, including help from the Great Lakes K9 unit, Mitchell said. Divers went down to a couple spots, but they were false alarms. Earlier this week, the search crews were having problems with visibility because of algae in the lake. The search would continue unofficially depending on availability of the boat driver and weather conditions, he said, in hopes of finding Buczek and offering closure.

Ozaukee County Coroner John Holicek said the boy's parents would do a positive identification, but that there was no doubt the body was of the 15-year-old.

Holicek said no autopsy would be performed.

My sincere sympathy to the Family. No family should have to bare the pain of a tragedy as Tylers family, friends, and community is mourning. I hope the Port Washington City would take this death and put signs as such so anyone swimming in the beach is aware of this and what they should be looking for before going into the water as well. My prayers and warm thoughts to the family and friends who where with Tyler that day.

I grew up in Port and would swim often in the lake as a teen. On one occasion, north of mile rock, I was swept out by the strong riptide that dragged me out and south toward the harbor. It was terrifying - I thought I was going to die. I did finally manage to get back in, probably a quarter mile south of wear i had gone in. I was exhausted and vomiting water. My friends were unaware of what happened (some friends :P). And that wasn't even the worst I'd experienced. There were days when even riptides in ankle deep water threatened to pull your legs out from under. Warn your kids, and always watch out for each other.
