WISN: Man Accused of Killing Deer With Truck Makes Court Appearance

A West Bend man whom authorities say deliberately struck a deer with his van in Port Washington had his case delayed Tuesday after appearing in court without a lawyer.

A 29-year-old West Bend man accused of killing a deer on purpose using his pickup truck made his first court appearance Tuesday — without a lawyer.

So, Ozaukee County Circuit Court Judge Sandy Williams postponed the case of Michael A. Cox until next month, and told him to find representation, according to Patch's media partners at WISN 12 News.

Cox was charged with a misdemeanor count of illegal hunting after authorities say he deliberately struck a deer with his truck in April.

According to the criminal complaint, Cox called police to say he struck the deer on  South Beach Road and wanted claim the animal. However, video taken of the crash from a security camera at the nearby We Energies plant appears to show that Cox struck the deer on purpose.

On Tuesday, Cox stepped into the courtroom without an attorney, WISN reported, and he hadn't had the money to hire one. However, he told Williams he planned to hire one, so she adjourned the case to give Cox more time to find representation.
