30% Voter Turnout Expected in Port on Tuesday

Two Port Washington Common Council alderman face opponents in Tuesday's general election, which also features a race for Saukville village president and a primary election for the 60th Assembly District.

Port Washington expects as much as a 30 percent voter turnout on Tuesday for the general elections, according to Susan Westerbeke, deputy clerk for the city.

Port has already recieved 175 absentee ballots as of Monday, and Westerbeke said she expects that number to climb to 200 before the elections' end.

In Saukville, Deputy Clerk Mary Baumann said the village expects a 20 percent turnout; the village has recieved 35 absentee ballots as of Monday.

The general election on Tuesday is accompanied by a special primary election for the candidates of the 60th Assembly District spot, vacated by Mark Gottlieb after Gov. Scott Walker appointed him as the transportation secretary.

There are three polling locations available for voting in Port Washington, pending which ward you live in: Wards 1 and 11 vote at , 1403 N. Holden St.; Wards 6, 7 and 8 vote at , 1243 W. Lincoln Ave.; and Wards 2, 3, 4, 5, 9 and vote at , 100 W. Grand Ave. If you are not sure which ward you belong to, call the City Hall at 262-284-5585.

In Saukville, voters from all 8 wards can cast their ballot at American Legion, 601 W. Dekora St.

So, who's up for election?
In Port Washington, four alderman positions are up for election, including the 1st District, where is the only name on the ballot; Incumbent Jim Vollmar faces newcomer Peter A. Oglevie for the 3rd District spot; will replace Ald. Tom Hudson in 5th District; and incumbent Dan Becker faces newcomer John Sigwart for the .

In Saukville, three board trustee spots are up for election β€” but the only names on the ballot for those spots are : Joseph Caban, David Maglio and Mike Krocka. Saukville Village Board Members are considered "at large" members, representing the entire village. Saukville Village President Barb Dickmann faces newcomer Mike Rintelman in .

Candidates for the 60th Assembly District spot include: Republicans , , , Jake Curtis, , Duey Stroebel and Gary Wickert; and Democrats and Perry Duman. The candidates face a primary election on Tuesday, and the winning candidates will then move forward to the on May 3. Messages left for Stroebel and Wickert have not yet been returned.

The school board won't see any change, as the three incumbents for positions opening up on that board are the only candidates who filed as well. Those include: board member Sarah McCutcheon, board member Brian McCutcheon and Treasurer Kim Wood.

About the positions
The Saukville village president makes $4,000 annually, while village trustees are paid a $1,000 stipend. Both positions also earn $2,280 stiped for meeting attendance; all members are allowed an excused absence from one regular meeting as well as a finance committee meeting before seeing deductions in pay of $85 per regular meeting missed, and $10 per finance meeting missed. Port Washington alderman make $3,750 annually. All positions are two-year terms.

School Board members serve three year terms, and are paid $1,200 annually for attending one regular monthly meeting as well as one monthly committee meeting. The members are paid extra for attending extra meetings, at a rate of $25 for meetings less than two hours, and $50 for meetings that go longer.
