About the candidates

Rick Aaron
"My focus has always been very straightforward: open and honest government; vigorous open public debate; job creation doesn't mean tax breaks for the wealthy; and budget cutting should be done with a 'surgeon's scalpel,' not a sledgehammer. The word compromise should not mean losing.

"I am not a 'professional politician.' Listening, and the art of 'hearing' are critical elements for moving forward. As long as we can continue a discussion, there is hope. The art of civility needs to return to government. Name calling and simplistic labels applied to people don't achieve anything. I refuse to be a 'rubber stamp' for anyone."

Age:  61
Address: 557 N. Cumberland, Bayside (Note: If Aaron wins Tuesday's race, he is expected to move to a home within the district within 10 days after being certified for the position.)

Duey Stroebel
"My focus is and always has been jobs and the economy — ultimately, these things impact all facets of our lives. Unlike my liberal opponent, who does not even live in the district, I was born and raised in the district and have spent the last 25 years as a business owner and job creator in the district. I will bring experienced, commonsense thinking to Madison to help balance the budget. I will focus on cutting taxes, reducing spending and job creation. We can not burden future generations with stifling debt. It can not be business as usual."
