City Approves No Parking on Portion of Street Near Community Garden

The Port Washington Common Council approved no parking signs to a portion of the road nearest to the Ozaukee Interurban Trail for safety reasons.

Concerned for the safety of Ozaukee Interurban Trail users and hoping to avoid congestion along Hales Trail because of , Port Washington officials approved an ordinance on Tuesday night banning parking along a portion of the street.

"That’s just going to be an unsafe condition," Port Washington City Adminstrator Mark Grams said.

The recommendation to ban parking came from the , and eliminates parking on Hales Trail where it meets with Pierron Street until about 90 feet east of the intersection with Kaiser Drive.

The , just a short walk in from Hales Trail. It has room for about 60 plots that are 15 feet by 15 feet. The garden organizers have started a Facebook page, and updates on the garden's progress — including future opportunities to volunteer — are posted there. The annual fee per plot is set at $25 for residents, and $30 for nonresidents. Plots are still available.
