City Officials Approve Raise for Port Fire Chief

The 3.5 percent increase in pay closes the gap on comparable salaries of other area full-time chiefs, as well as makes up for extra hours the chief puts in, officials say.

Chief Mark Mitchell will see an increase in his salary after city officials decided the raise was appropriate based on comparable salaries of other area full-time chiefs.

Mitchell's new salary, after a 3.5 percent raise, is $81,212. City Adminstrator Mark Grams said the increase also accounts for night hours Mitchell puts in to attend required training sessions, as well as his extra work with the .

The Port Washington Common Council approved the raise after a recommendation from the Police and Fire Commission.

Grams said the raise will have no impact on the budget because Mitchell has worked to secure a lot of grant funding to help pay for equipment and other necessary budget items within the department.
