City Pursuing Downtown Parking Survey
Mayor says he wants SEWRPC to perform a parking survey due to the major economic success seen in the downtown lakefront area and future needs brought on by the Coal Dock project.
With more development coming to the downtown area, Mayor Tom Mlada said Tuesday he’s looking into the potential of a parking survey to assess the city's needs as it continues to grow.
Mlada said city officials are looking into having the Southeastern Wisconsin Planning Commission do a parking survey in the downtown area to see if and what kind of parking needs exist. He said the survey is also needed because of the Coal Dock project taking place on the waterfront and the economic success the city is seeing in the downtown area.
"Whether or not you feel there’s a parking issue now, in my mind we’re going to have parking issues," he said.

SEWRPC would perform the survey at no cost to the city, but Mlada said he doesn’t anticipate it will be a quick process — with it potentially taking one to two years to complete.
Mlada said city administrators are working to draft a proposal to take forward to the common council for approval in the coming months. City leaders will then have the opportunity to address the scope of the study before SEWRPC undertakes the project.
