City Takes Steps to Annex 1.7 Acres from Town

But town, state still have to go along with the proposal.

The Port Washington Plan Commission and Common Council are both making moves toward approving the annexation of a piece of land from the Town of Port Washington to the city.

Lucille Greiveldinger submitted a petition to the Council, hoping to annex about 1.78 acres of land along West Walters Street and adjacent to the Lake Ridge subdivision. Greiveldinger is selling that portion of land to a relative.

The acquisition of this parcel of land would give the city the entire stretch of the West Walters Street right of way, rather than only claiming ownership of the southern half.

The Common Council on Wednesday approved the petition for the annexation, so that it could move forward in the process. On Thursday, the Plan Commission approved the plan.

Both the town of Port Washington and the state must review and approve the detachment. The annexation would then come back to the city's Common Council for final approval.
