Contested Incumbents Keep Spots on Port Washington Common Council

Aldermen Becker and Vollmar come ahead in Tuesday night election.

Votes are tallied and the results are in: Aldermen Dan Becker and Jim Vollmar will keep their positions on the Port Washington Common Council, both winning more votes than their opponents.

Becker rang in with 229 votes to win his spot representing the 7th District, while opponent John Sigwart walks away with 204 votes. There were two write-in votes for the 7th District.

Vollmar received a total of 228 votes, while candidate Peter A. Oglevie lost with only 145 votes; Vollmar will now continue to represent the 3rd District. There were also two write-in votes for this District.

Final results were official as of 11:05 p.m., and the candidates were unable to be reached for comment. Check Patch on Wednesday for an updated story.

Alderman positions were also up for election in the 1st and 5th districts.

Incumbent Michael Ehrlich was the only name on the ballot for the 1st District, so he holds the position with 290 votes. There were four write-in votes listed on the ballot.

In the 5th District, newcomer Joe Dean was the only name on the ballot to replace Ald. Tom Hudson — who decided to not to rerun. There were 364 votes for Dean, who is also a former mayor of Port Washington, and eight write-in votes.
