Hwy. 33 Likely Traffic to Switch Lanes Thursday

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation continues to move closer to finishing its Highway 33 construction project.

With the  that was closed to traffic as part of the Highway 33 construction project now open, traffic has been filtering up and down the roadway through the three partially completed roundabouts that were a main focus on the project — and construction work is still moving right along to get all the final touches completed.

"They do plan on moving traffic to the inside lanes next Thursday at 7 a.m.," Port Washington City Engineer Rob Vanden Noven said. "That’s the plan. Not everything always goes according to schedule. … (Also), just about all the sidewalk is in with the exception of the bike path.”

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is , and has some landscaping to complete.

"If I had to guess, I would say the end of July (for all of the paving to be completed)," Vanden Noven said.

Initially, the Department of Transportation Project Manager , but Port City Administrator Mark Grams said the "anticipated completion date is now sometime this fall."

The Highway 33 project calls for  from South Tower Street in Port Washington to the Milwaukee River overflow bridge in Saukville. The road will be widened to four lanes with a median, and three roundabouts will be added at the intersections of Highway 33 and County LL, Highway 33 and Northwoods Road, and Highway 33 and Market Street.

There has been some controversy over , which  because of utility work and weather.
