Keep Filling Up on Lake Michigan Water

Annual report shows Port Washington's drinking water, which comes from Lake Michigan, meets all federal and state contaminant standards.

Drinking water for city of Port Washington residents meets or exceeds federal standards for the limited amounts of compounds allowed to be in the water by the Environmental Protection Agency, according to the city's annual quality report.

"Our water source is Lake Michigan, which is treated at a state-of-the-art surface water treatment plant using rapid sand filtration and then pupmed into the water distribution for the city of Port Washington," said the report, which was distributed by mail.

The water contains flouride, a compound typically added to water to promote strong teeth. The report shows 1.1 parts per million of flouride in the water, and EPA's standards allow up to 4 ppm. .
