Longtime Library Board Member Earns Recognition

Eastern Shores Library System honors Wiesner for 12 years of service.

Ending her tenure as an Eastern Shores Library System board member, Joann Wiesner was recognized for her years of service at Tuesday’s Saukville Village Board meeting.

Weisner, who served on the library board since 1998, was a member of its budget and personnel committees. She also showed a passion for providing library services to rural areas, said Saukville Village President Barb Dickmann.

At the meeting, Weisner received a plaque from the library system in recognition of her achievements.

Also at Tuesday's meeting, Director Jen Gerber provided the Village Board with updates on technology.

The library now has more than 600 e-books can be used on a variety of devices, like the Barnes and Noble Nook and Amazon’s Kindle. Gerber reported that after Christmas, the digital collections saw a 180 percent jump in usage.

Trustee Jen Schoenfeldt hypothesized that this was likely to due to the number of e-readers people received over the holidays.

This March, the library will be hosting several classes to teach people how to use their new e-readers.  A Sony E-Reader and a Nook were purchased by library for educational purposes like those classes, however, they will not be available for check out. 

Gerber also reported that the library launched a Facebook page about a month ago that updates its fans on educational programs and library additions.
