Two Incumbents to Face Challengers for Port Washington Common Council

Incumbents Becker and Ehrlich to face new candidates Sigwart and Oglevie in the April 5 election for aldermanic spots.

Two alderman each will face a challenger in April as the filing deadline for the elections ended at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Ald. Jim Vollmar has filed for re-election in the 3rd District, and will be opposed by Peter Oglevie.

Ald. Dan Becker, who represents the 7th District, has filed for re-election. He will be opposed by John Sigwart, a former city official.

Ald. Mike Ehrlich, who represents the 1st District, has filed for re-election and will be unopposed.

Joe Dean will become the 5th District alderman, replacing Ald. Tom Hudson, who did not file for re-election.

With no more than two candidates vying for each position, a primary election will not be necessary.

Sigwart was the city engineer and public works director for Port Washington in the 1970s, and said has "been very involved with projects in the city all along."

Sigwart works with the Main Street Organization has been active in the local Kiwanis club for 25 years and has worked on a number of other committees and projects in the city.

"I wanted to do something that would be a little more time consuming and interesting, and I decided I wanted to see if I could make a difference for the community," he said of his decision to run.

Becker is finishing his first two-year term as alderman. A phone message left Tuesday afternoon was not immediately returned.

Aldermen make $3,750 a year and serve two-year terms.
