When is the 2013 Presidential Inauguration?

President Barack Obama is sworn in for his second term next week.

President Barack Obama will be sworn in for his second term at 11 a.m. CST on Monday, Jan. 21.

The 2013 Inauguration will be broadcast live online on various channels and by all the major networks, details and links to be announced. Following the swearing in, Obama will deliver his inaugural address, then participate in a luncheon followed by the inaugural parade down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House.

Tickets for both official inaugural balls sold out even before they were on sale due to a Ticketmaster glitch, according to Reston, VA Patch. Craigslist, of course, lists numerous tickets for sale — buyer beware.

Wisconsin will not host an inaugural ball, according to the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, but there are dozens of other inaugural galas around Washington throughout the weekend, according to a listing on about.com.

Thanks, Matt, for the additional details!

Thank you Patch team for the amazing coverage you did all election season...both elections in 2012.
Craig January 15, 2013 at 09:18 pm
I would watch it- but I would need a barf bag. Is the Democrapic party going to hand them out?
Matt January 15, 2013 at 10:10 pm
I think the inauguration is not about the person who is getting inaugurated as much as it is about the office. Yes, today a Democrat is being inaugurated for his 4 years as President, but eventually a Republican will be getting inaugurated, and while I wont be watching it, I will not be disrespecting it because he is still the President of the United States.
So Craig, you may not like Obama, but I think you should respect the office and the tradition.

This country is financially broken.
Why not eliminate government (taxpayer) funded inaugural celebrations and parties for ANY 2nd term president. Party affiliation is irrelevant. Swear the President in and be done with it.
Bob McBride January 15, 2013 at 11:33 pm
That makes a lot of sense. Heck, why do we even bother swearing them in again? Grant them a 4 year extension on the original and be done with it. Back to work.
Nuitari January 16, 2013 at 01:53 am
That exists? What a minority that must be.
patchreader 123 January 16, 2013 at 02:28 am
Well Bob, I think I've had a change in heart.
I just learned that "the latest boldface names to officially join in the action are Katy Perry, Alicia Keys, Usher, Brad Paisley and the cast of 'Glee.' That crop of singers, along with Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Marc Anthony and John Legend, Nick Cannon, Fun, and Mindless Behavior are expected to make appearances at various events. Beyonce will be there to perform the national anthem; James Taylor is scheduled to sing 'Shower the People; and Kelly Clarkson will sing 'America the Beautiful.'" Who can resist such a temptation?! Worth every penny of my tax dollars.
Bob McBride January 16, 2013 at 03:13 am
A nice collection of 1%-ers to honor the hero of the 99%. I'm sure all of them will instruct their accountants to avoid any available tax dodges this coming year so as to comply with his desire that they pay their fair share. And monkeys might fly out of...

It appears none of the following was included in any spending cuts....
1) The Presidential Inaugural Parade Management Joint task Force (I kid you not); http://2013inaugurationparade.army.mil/ 2) Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (read the luncheon menu and view the Committee members); and http://www.inaugural.senate.gov/ 3) The Presidential Inaugural Committee (view the store for Vera Wang designs; perhaps I'll splurge and purchase an Official Inauguration 2013 Shot Glass; not to worry, Tube Socks are available for the non-drinker). http://www.2013pic.org/ I'm flabbergasted.
Craig January 16, 2013 at 03:50 am
I respect the office but not the man..or his party. But I suppose that is W's fault.
John Wilson January 16, 2013 at 04:24 am
Matt -
Good job! I would like to join you folks - eventhough I am not a Democrat - my wife and I have tickets to the event... and I feel both honored and awesome!
Matt January 16, 2013 at 06:27 am
John,
We look forward to seeing you at the event and thank you for joining us. I will try and keep an ear out for you so I can say hi. The event is not just for Democrats, its open to anyone, all we ask is that everyone is kind and respectful. This is an event of celebration. If you are free on Thursday you should come to our potluck. It is going to be a great time with a lot of good people. All the details are on the website as well. :)

How did this get so racist? On BOTH sides....
Nuitari, Mike Itzenhuiser, WPN1488, Jim Ignatowski, do any of you feel ok about what you are saying? I mean this is some deep racism that is not needed or relevant to the conversation at hand.
Satori January 16, 2013 at 01:39 pm
Look at these two dolts. Wonder when Mike will figure out that he and WPN are on the same side.
Jim Ignatowski January 16, 2013 at 01:39 pm
I feel pretty good about it Matt. Don't you?
Heather Asiyanbi (Editor) January 16, 2013 at 01:40 pm
I am going to give Nuitari, Mike Itzenhuiser, WPN1488, and Jim Ignatowski 1 hour to delete or edit their comments and then I'll do it myself. Hate speech violates the Patch Terms of Service and will not be tolerated.
Jim Ignatowski January 16, 2013 at 01:44 pm
Why wait?
Heather Asiyanbi (Editor) January 16, 2013 at 01:45 pm
Comments deleted - but suspension is next ... don't try me. I'm feeling itchy today.
Fire Fly January 16, 2013 at 02:19 pm
Itchy finger ? Gun control & Presidential order today .. Got it !!
Craig January 16, 2013 at 02:42 pm
Heather: Often times it is better to leave the racist comments so everyone else can see them. If they are deleted the rest of us can not form an opinion about them. That being said, if they are blatantly racist and vulgar I understand your actions.
Nuitari January 16, 2013 at 02:43 pm
How dare you call me a racist. Kwanzaa is a celebration of African heritage in which our president is a proud example of and can once again display to the public come Inauguration Day.
Sorry for the open interpretation.
Craig January 16, 2013 at 02:57 pm
LOL...even though I am not a democrat.
Steve ® January 16, 2013 at 03:37 pm
Free home rape kits are approved, right Heather?
Nuitari January 16, 2013 at 03:40 pm
I would like the DNC to answer why the Presidential Inauguration Committee, which is deemed BIPARTISAN, is mining personal data through their smartphone app to give the DNC mailing lists.
John Wilson January 16, 2013 at 06:21 pm
Bob McBride -
Recently added to this star studded list, Ted Nugent... I guess he wants to see if he really can be dead or going to prison...
John Wilson January 16, 2013 at 06:29 pm
Nuitari -
Well, that's a really difficult issue! Email them, call them, text them... just try and make sure they are "mining personal data" B/4 you get all hysterical with them and poop your speedos...
Nuitari January 16, 2013 at 08:41 pm
Well I would never download their crappy app to begin with. The issue is the fact that they are supposed to be an independent, bipartisan operation and here they are doing the leg work for your party.
John Wilson January 16, 2013 at 10:44 pm
Nuitari –
Well, the issue is you have no PROOF, just opinion. You do not know they are “mining personal data” because you simply have not checked into that. You have not downloaded their “crappy app” and tested it, so you do not have a clue regarding if the app is “crappy”, only, as usual, an uninformed opinion. This also holds true for them doing the legwork for a party, another opinion, based upon nothing. One must conclude that your investigatory skill set is just truly awesome…
