Your Home Port: City Launches Branding Campaign

A new website and way signage are among the plans for the city's new branding campaign.

With the influx of summer visitors and its destination-city appeal, Port Washington has often garnered a reputation as a tourism city — but officials are hoping to change that perception with a branding campaign that's getting closer to launch.

"Your Home Port," is the planned tagline for the city's branding campaign, an idea that the city's Marketing & Communications Committee has been working to develop since its inception in May 2012.

The tagline exemplifies that, "not only can Port Washington be a destination for you, but ... it really can be your home base," Mlada said.

The branding campaign includes plans for a new city website, way signage and the hope that all the images connected to the plan become recognizably associated with Port Washington.

Mlada introduced the campaign's concept to the Common Council during its Tuesday night meeting, and hopes to take action on some of the moving parts during the next meeting — Aug. 6 — so that implementation can take place as scheduled; the new website would hopefully launch on Oct. 1.

"I think (the new site design is) very, very impressive," Mlada said. "Love the layout, love the design — love the ability of us to really leverage business and get them involved."

Alderman appeared supportive of the campaign, with Ald. Michael Ehrlich praising those involved in the process.

"Clearly a lot of hard work has gone into this, and I think it's a great step forward for Port Washington," Ehrlich said.
