Remodel Offers 'Unique' Space for Port's Downtown

As renovations of the former Brewmeister's Trading Post near completion, building owner Ross Leinweber dishes on the unique apartment spaces as well as a modern retail space soon to be available.

While building owner Ross Leinweber is not quite ready to reveal the final product of his remodeled space at 322 N. Franklin St., he said things are looking good for the former Brewmeister's Trading Post.

"We have generally a solid lead for a (commercial) tenant," he said of the modernized space on the first floor, "but we're not in a naming stage at this point."

As far as the upper level goes, workers are in the process of creating two apartment spaces with very different appeals that will offer a "a very unique space for the downtown," Leinweber said. "We've done a lot of work and pretty much completely gutted the spaces to make them modern."

One apartment features an open concept loft layout that would work well for a couple with an infant or a single entreprenuer in need of living and work space, and anyone in between, Leinweber said. The second apartment is a more traditional 2-bedroom space.

"I think those will be attractive places for people to live in," he said. "They're very big apartments compared to a lot of the things that are available downtown."

Each unit will feature new mechanicals, including air conditioning and a heating system, as well as new hardwood floors.

Though the apartments won't be 100 percent complete, Leinweber hopes to showcase the spaces during Port's upcoming Kiss of Indulgence Ladies Night Out, offering attendees the chance to tour the spaces.

"They won’t be completely done," he said, "but they'll be mostly done."

The event runs from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 12.
