Be Our Guest: Ozaukee Chorus Invites Community to Disney Concert

Port Washington High School student Kelsey Decker is one of five students receiving a scholarship from the choir group, an effort funded by its annual concerts.

Port Washington High School student Kelsey Decker is one of five winners of the Ozaukee Chorus' annual scholarship, given to students to help pay for college education or music lessons and other pursuits while still in high school.

"Decker has actively participated in WSMA solo and ensemble competitions, going to state for two years. She is a member of Port's vocal jazz groups, including the vocal jazz ensemble that recently won third place in a national competition in New York.  She also plays flute in band," Choir Director Brian Eggers said. "All of our winners are highly motivated musicians and just great young people, a credit to their schools and our community."

"It's a great concert for the whole family," Eggers said. "Everyone will experience music that they know from all the great disney movies and shows. ... It has been a really fun concert to prepare and it will be fun concert to come and hear. We especially want people to include us in the Mother's Day celebrations with a concert the whole family can enjoy."

Disney songs that will be heard at the performance include: "Be Our Guest," "Colors of the Wind," "Circle of LIfe," "Kiss the Girl." Other music "that evokes the spirit of Disney," as Eggers put it, will also be heard, including: "Celebration" by Kool and the Gang; "Wind Beneath my Wings"; "Thank You for Being a Friend," from Golden Girls and Unforgettable. The Ozaukee Chorus has been in existence for 38 years and has a membership of about 80 singers from Ozaukee and surrounding counties.

The scholarship is the group's way of promoting "excellence in music education in the county," Eggers said. This year's other scholarship winners include: Mackenzie Melan from Homestead; Stephen Campbell from Cedarburg; Alexandra Blum from Grafton; and Emily Utecht from Northern Ozaukee.

Performances will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday at the Cedarburg Performing Arts Center, W68 N611 Evergreen Blvd., Cedarburg; tickets are $9 each, with children 12 and under free.
