Duffrin Eliminated From School Board Race

Four other candidates will continue on to general election in April to fill two open spots on the Port Washington-Saukville School Board.

Port Washington-Saukville School Board candidate Leo Duffrin IV is the only one not moving on to the general election after getting the lowest number of votes during Tuesday night's primary election.

The winning candidates include Brenda Fritsch, Earl Kelley, Ross Larsson and Michelle Mueller. The unofficial final results are as follows:

  • Ross Larsson: 865
  • Earl Kelley: 840
  • Michelle Mueller: 837
  • Brenda Fritsch: 752
  • Leo J. Duffrin IV: 644
  • Write-in Votes: 17

Kelley said he believes his success stems from his focus on finances.

"The only thing I can figure is the stand I was taking in looking for some changes in the fiscal side of the house. That was really the difference I think between myself and the others," he said. "I was surprised that the two conservatives (referencing himself and Larsson) came out right on top, with people organizing to get the teacher vote out.

"I’m very happy and very grateful for everybody that voted for me and I think if I’m lucky enough to get on the board I will be able to work with the other board members. We’ll have a lot of disagreements and intense discussions, but I’m sure we can work together."

Larsson said he believes it was his push for transparency that got him enough votes to move on.

"I’ve been saying all along that I want to make the board transparent," he said. "I’m just going to keep doing what I’m doing, talking to people and trying to keep doing what I’ve done so far."

Fritsch, meanwhile, said she is going to maintain the students as her focus.

"I am pleased that I got voted into the general election, and would be very excited to serve the Port Washington Board," Fritsch said. "I think that between now and then, I’ll just really focus on letting people know that I’m in it for the kids."

Michelle Mueller did not immediately return a call seeking comment on the election. The general election is April 3, and the four candidates will face each other to fill two opening spots.
