$600,000 Deficit Looms for Port-Saukville Schools

The Port Washington-Saukville School District is preparing for a deficit after Gov. Scott Walker unveiled his version of the 2013-15 proposed state budget.

The Port Washington-Saukville School District is facing a $600,000 deficit next school year under Gov. Scott Walker's proposed budget, reported the Ozaukee Press.

Superintendent Michael Weber said at a Finance Committee meeting that the district would not cut programs but will slow down their initiatives, according to the article. 

Walker's proposed $68 billion budget would combine tax cuts with increased spending on transportation infrastructure and private education.

Walker said he would offset the tax cuts and spending increases by shifting some funds away from public schools and healthcare, freezing local government aid and selling some assets, reported Reuters. 

School Board President Jim Eden is submitting a letter to state legislators asking them to consider an alternative plan proposed by Republican senators Luther Olsen and Mike Ellis, reported the Ozaukee Press.
