School Committee Address Employee Handbook

Sometimes the most important work of elected bodies takes place at the committee level. Three committees of the Port Washington-Saukville School District meet beginning at 5:30 p.m. today at the district office conference room.

The Extracurricular Programs Committee begins the proceedings, followed by the Personnel and Programs Committee at 6:30 p.m. and the Buildings and Grounds Committee at 7:30 p.m.

Of those, the Personnel and Programs Committee has two notable tasks. Panel members will discuss the progress in creating the employee handbook, which replaces the contract with the teachers union. It's been a .

Then the group talks about the annual "third Friday count" of students and open enrollment. The official district enrollment, on which state aid is based, is submitted on the third Friday of every September.

It'll Be Warm Inside For Sure

It's a light week for home sporting events for the Port Washington Pirates. The football team goes to Germantown after a , but the girls' swim team hosts Whitefish Bay at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Thomas Jefferson Middle School.

Meal Prep for Busy Families

The Feith Family YMCA hosts "Something's Cooking" as a way to provide tips and support for simple meal prep for busy families.

This and features quinoa pilaf and quinoa salad. It's just $5 for YMCA members and $8 for community participants.

Get In Your Exercise for Good Causes

Friday's features a kids' fun run and a 5K run/walk, starting at 4:15 p.m. at The money raised supports the physical education department of the .

It's also not too late to register for the Shriners Hospital for Children Run/Walk Push or Pull, starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at . It's $20 for adults and $10 for children, and all proceeds benefit the Shriners Hospital of Chicago.

If walking seems like just so much work, drive on over to Schmit Bros. Ford in on Hwy. 33 for a Classic Car Show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Trophies will be awarded in 16 classes; admission for spectators is free.
