Shop Port, Think Local: Beanies Mexican Restaurant

Shop Port, Think Local puts the spotlight on Beanies Mexican Restaurant

For the next several weeks  wants to introduce you to some of our local businesses. We want to spotlight a new business each week and show you something that makes them special.

This week we are featuring . Marcia asked me to add a couple things about the restaurant, so here's the story.

Beanies Mexican Restaurant was established in 1989 under the prompting of Marcia's husband, Skip, and daughters Christa and Keely.  It has a uniquely fun and festive atmosphere where guests feel like family and have fun as they swing from the swings under the giant tree in the Cantina.

Beanie’s always buy the best quality products. They always buy local first, and provide exceptional authentic Mexican food made fresh from scratch daily.  They are working on a purchasing partnership with local grocery store . The owners are continuously on the hunt for new and exciting recipes to add to the menu. Beanies is famous for their exceptional chips and salsa. Both are made fresh daily and keep customers coming back for more!

The owners, Marcia and Joanie, have remained friends despite the advice they got that "friends should not go into business together." They have gotten through tough times with much laughter and prayer. Marcia is also a big fan of and can frequently be spotted sporting the fun tops she buys there.  If you were at this Valentine’s Day you may have spotted her there as well. Beanies supports the local community by patronizing other local businesses.

Beanies is "a little bit of Mexico in downtown Port."  You can always find Beanies salsa at Sentry — it is refrigerated in the produce department. Steve Sanfilippo is working on Marcia to start packaging the chips for sale to go with the salsa.  So — hopefully soon — you will see the Beanies chips near the salsa at Sentry!
