Shop Port, Think Local spotlights the Taste of Africa Restaurant this week.

For the next several weeks  wants to introduce you to some of our local businesses. We want to spotlight a new business each week and show you something that makes them special.  

Up this week is offers unique and delicious flavors of Africa, all of which just happen to be naturally dairy-free and gluten-free. The restaurant uses no dairy, wheat, barley or rye. Sauces are thickened with tomato sauce or egg when needed — making its kitchen and menu entirely dairy-free and gluten-free.

You can order your meal with confidence and not even have to make those "special requests." It’s all good!

Taste of Africa offer the best grilled meat and seafood dinners like chicken, beef, pork, goat, catfish, tilapia and shrimp. All entrees are accompanied by a choice of rice and sauce. Calalu, Pili-Pili and fried plantains are also available in several variations.

For vegetarians, they offer Red Red and nine different types of rice from Aroni rice to Wakye that can be mixed and matched with six sauces to make vegetarian meals.

Taste of Africa sauces are sold by the bottle at the restaurant, on its website and in a growing number of local retail outlets. In Milwaukee, they are available at J&S African Center, 6029 N. Teutonia Ave.; at  in Port
Washington; and at Settlers Park Market, 152 N Main St., West Bend.

Taste of Africa also does catering for different size groups.

They are located in the basement of , next to the historic . It is open from 5 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
