Street Festival and Marketplaces: A Big Success

Bringing the European marketplace to downtown Port Washington.

When my family was in Italy a few years ago, one of the things we loved about it the most was the marketplace that took place on the weekends. In the piazza, everyone comes to sell their goods. Individuals sell everything from fresh vegetables and spices to house wares and clothing. It gives the community a time to get together and talk, eat and enjoy each other’s company.

That’s what our own Port Washington Marketplace reminds me of. People are out and about downtown enjoying entertainment, eating and shopping in a relaxed open-air environment on Franklin Street.

With all the 30+ vendors that are on the street during these events, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Some of the excellent offerings are Farmers Market vegetables, men’s clothing, gift items, Disney Princess photos, entertainment on the street corners and a variety of food from our local restaurants.

All of the stores are open during these events and many of them offer specials. Some of them even partner with service organizations to allow other businesses in our community to benefit. For example, sold products outside of the store and all the money raised from their sales was donated to the CLC program from Pear & Simple. partnered with an organization and donated profits from their sales as well.

There are two more Marketplace events scheduled: Sunday, Aug. 5 and Saturday, Oct. 27. Stop downtown and see for yourself what Europeans enjoy all the time.
