Dad at Bat for Patch's Youth Baseball Team

Get to know the coaches of Patch's Port Washington Youth Baseball team.

For Saukville’s Troy Russell, the decision to coach youth baseball was as simple as watching the joy his son gained from the sport.

This year, the father of three stepped up to the plate to oversee the Port Washington Brewers, the team sponsored by the Port Washington-Saukville Patch.

While supervising his team warm up, Russell explained that baseball is his son’s favorite sport, and that he was the primary reason he decided to become involved in running the team this year.  He also recognized the hard work done by other parents provided in years prior.

“I admired the parents that stepped up,” he said.

Now that Russell’s on deck, he’s putting his avid Brewers viewership to good use. He's also pulling from his own Little League experience as a boy, admittedly the last time Russell formally played baseball.  Together, he and fellow coach Jeff Clark are supervising the next generation of players.

As one of the leaders of the team, Russell said that his favorite part is “watching the enjoyment the kids get from the sport.”

When Russell's not out working with his players on the field, he said he spends much of his time with his three children, fostering their interest in a wide array of extracurriculars.  And as a sports enthusiast, he tries his hand at other activities as well: "I golf.  Well, I try to," he laughed.
