Local Businesses Help Kick Off Adult Soccer Leagues

The Help Key and Grand Avenue Saloon in Port are both sponsoring teams in the newly launched leagues, which have drawn players from as far as Milwaukee and Sheboygan.

After to start up adult soccer leagues in Port Washington, Jennifer Huettl is now happy to say the sport has taken off — in a lot of ways.

Not only are teams forming from as far away as Milwaukee and Sheboygan — as well as including some players from closer by, such as Cedarburg — but some area businesses have also stepped up to sponsor the teams.

and in Port are both sponsoring teams, Huettl said, and more are coming down the wire. The teams currently play Tuesday and Thursday nights, with the current season running through July 26; Games are played at the fields behind St. Peter's and McDonald's.

On Thursday, several teams met to challenge each other; pictured with this article are the Port Teachers FC (all players on the team are actually teachers), and The Townies.

Huettl said another season will start in fall, and she hopes to host some sort of a charity tournament between seasons.
