Port Washington Maritime Heritage Festival
This three-day lakeside event celebrates Port Washington. Running Aug. 17-19, the free festival is held in Downtown Port Washington.
The Port Washington Maritime Heritage Festival is a family-friendly event that combines water and land in a perfectly blended lakeside event.
Three tall ships dock in the Port harbor each year for the event, and tours of the boats are available for a price. Also check out musical entertainment, historical activities and displays, as well as crafts and children's activities. The event also features fireworks and a variety of food vendors to choose from.
The event focuses on the educational value of the maritime history in the Port Washington area, according to the event's website. "
Last year, event organizers added a Cardboard Boat Regatta race to the event, in which participants built boats completely out of cardboard and a few other select materials; the boats surprisingly floated in the harbor!
That event is coming back again, and this year there is a build-ahead as well as a build-that-day event.
