The August 30 event is hosted by Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson of Theinsville and Port Washington Main Street, and features music, food and beverage, shopping and entertainment to its downtown. American Country Music artist Darryl Worley will play on the main stage at 8 p.m. The event has some major sponsors already, though organizers say they are looking for more sponsors. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker could appeal to both social and fiscal conservatives, making him a candidate to "fear" in the Iowa Caucuses, progressives warn.
West Des Moines, Iowa — Amid growing speculation that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is testing GOP presidential waters in Iowa and elsewhere, progressive activists warned Thursday at a rally here that a Walker presidency would be “terrifying" and disastrous to middle-class families. Walker hasn’t said he’s a candidate, but his appearance Thursday at a Republican fundraiser in Iowa’s largest county, as well as a handful of appearances in the Northeast and before powerful conservative groups, suggest that he’s at least considering a 2016 run for the Republican presidential nomination. The “Scott Walker Truth Squad,” as activists from Progress Iowa and One Wisconsin Now call themselves, told reporters at a news conference that Walker has the …
The Common Council recently approved allowing Aldermen their pick of a laptop or tablet for use in conducting city business.
In a push to go paperless, Port Washington Aldermen will soon have their pick of a laptop or tablet for use in conducting city business, according to the Ozaukee Press. The Common Council recently approved the purchase of the technology, which is estimated to run the city $340 to 500 each, the Press writes. City officials say the equipment would pay for itself in about two years due to the reduced use of paper and the related savings.
Hollywood wants to capture Wisconsin's deep abiding affection for the Green Bay Packers and they are going to make a reality show about cheeseheads.
Move over Jersey Shore, the "cheeseheads" are taking over reality television via TBS's new reality show called...well, Cheeseheads, according to SBNation.com. Hollywood has just figured out what we alreday knew -- that Snookie and Pauly D have nothing on us. The producers hope to capture "the hilarious subculture," which of course includes the rituals of brew, brats, and the brouhaha around extreme fandom. The producer is Jason Carbone, who who also did The Bachelor and Run's House. A pilot likely hasn't been put together. So, if you could produce this show, where would you find shining examples of Packers Nation?

Nationwide, gas prices were predicted to be lower this summer compared to the last three years, but that won't translate into savings at the pump this Memorial Day weekend, experts said. "Motorists this year are facing rising gas prices heading into the Memorial Day holiday," said Michael Green, a AAA spokesman, adding that Memorial Day 2013 would probably be the most expensive since 2011. In past years, prices have declined heading into early summer as oil refineries produced more gasoline to meet expected summer driving demand. This year, though, Midwest refineries haven'…

Our sister Patch in West Des Moines, Iowa, reports that a Scott Walker “Truth Squad” plans to rally ahead of Wisconsin governor’s appearance before Republican activists.
West Des Moines, Iowa — Advocacy groups for progressives in Iowa and Wisconsin are holding “Scott Walker Truth Squad” in advance of the Wisconsin governor’s appearance Thursday at a Polk County Republican Fundraiser, one of several of appearances before GOP activists that point to a possible presidential run in 2016. Advisers to Walker say he’s returning a favor to Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad, who hosted a fundraiser in Dubuque, Iowa, for the embattled Wisconsin governor during his 2012 recall election, the Washington Post reported. Even if Walker’s advisers are telling it like it is, and that Walker’s appearance with Branstad is just a little quid pro quo among political friends, the pre-banquet rally by Progress Iowa and One Wisconsin Now …
Monday, May 27 is the time to honor our patriots and welcome the summer.
Memorial Day is a time to commemorate those who have fallen in service to the United States. The official celebration of these heroes began in the 1860s after the Civil War, when wreaths were laid on the graves of both Union and Confederate soldiers. The practice was fully recognized throughout the existing states by 1890. So, what is the best way to honor the holiday? In Port Washington, the city will pay tribute to those who have given so much to the country with a parade and program on Monday. The parade, sponsored by the Van Ells-Schanen American Legion Post 82, will start at 10:30 a.m. and run through downtown beginning at Wisconsin Street and Grand Avenue, east on Grand Avenue, north on Franklin Street and then follow Pier and Lake …
Who’s NOT planning a barbeque this weekend? If the weather holds and you’ve got propane or charcoal, chances are, you’re grilling something with your friends and family. Here, new ideas for keeping your costs down. Sponsored by Home Depot.
Here at Patch, we like to be thrifty, so we talked to two barbeque experts and uncovered some great ideas to help you save money on your next outdoor party. 1. Start with a marinade. This means planning ahead -- say, Friday. But it’s worth it, says Rick Browne, host of "Barbeque America" on PBS, because you can pass up that well-marbled ribeye steak and buy a less tender and less expensive choice to grill like a flank steak or chuck steak. Just marinate it or brine for one or two days and then cook long and slow on the barbeque grill to break down tissues but maintain moisture. “You need to include an acid in the marinade, perhaps juice, vinegar or soy sauce, but avoid cola which is so acidic it can turn meat into a soggy mess.” Try …
