Thursday, May 2, 2013
The Lakeshore Lacrosse club team's season is underway. Hear from two players and follow the team's season.
Common are the nights when parents might find themselves at basketball, soccer or football games — but when it comes to sports, local students aren't limited to such traditional options. Port Washington High School senior Dakota Kwasny is among the students who took his skills to a less common sport: Kwasny is a Lakeshore Lacrosse player, and said he believes the sport actually combines aspects of basketball, soccer and hockey. "It's a very northeast game — and it's just spreading across the country recently," he said. "It's kind of exploding across the country. It's gotten really big south —and it's starting to work its way west." The Lakeshore Lacrosse team is a part of a club sport and recruits players from the following high schools: …

Locally organized adult soccer leagues will offer spring and summer seasons, as well as tennis and kickball leagues.
A soccer league for adults launched last spring by Port resident Jennifer Huettl will return this season, with scrimmages starting already on Monday. "We anticipate possibly doubling our number of players from last season and have potential local sponsors in the works to sponsor team/league jerseys," Heuttl said in an e-mail to Patch. "We are also starting up an adult kickball league this summer as well as adult tennis leagues." The league involves all sorts of skill levels, with players Missy Winkworth and Ryan Diaz as perfect examples. "It is competitive soccer but it remains light and fun at the same time. The level of skill varies. No matter the skill level, everyone plays and has a great time with it," Diaz said, who played for many …

Opening Day for the Milwaukee Brewers is Monday, and fans are hoping they can return to the top of the National League Central Division — or at least beat the Chicago Cubs.
Milwaukee Brewers Opening Day is Monday, April 1 against the Colorado Rockies. The team was 83-79 last year, third in the NL Central Division. Fans’ expectations were recently raised after signing of free agent pitcher Kyle Lohse, a former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher who was 16-3 last year with a 2.86 ERA. Also key for Milwaukee’s hopes are the fortunes of Ryan Braun. The left fielder authored another incredible offensive season in 2012 (.319 batting average, 41 HR, 112 RBI, 30 SB) but is followed by a cloud of suspicion over the possible use of performance-enhancing drugs. USA Today reported that Braun is a top target of an investigation; Major League Baseball denied that report to Sports Illustrated in a separate article. How do you …
