Come, Sit, Stay: Fostering Dogs to Enrich Many Lives

When thinking about adopting a dog or puppy to join your family, options other than traditional animal shelters do exist.

I consider my decision to become a foster "parent" to dogs as part of the Tailwaggers 911 program one meant to enrich the lives of many. For starters, the fact that I am able to open my home on a temporary basis to this animal on Saturday will save the life of a 3-month-old labrador retriever mix otherwise fated to be put down because of a lack of space at the high-kill shelter it's currently housed in in Georgia. Secondly, Mara, my 1-1/2 year-old Vizsla dog — who has now finally given way to a nap out of sheer boredom after staring at me and whining to play for much of the afternoon — will greatly enjoy the ability to expend some energy with another four-legged critter while I Patch away. Third, the family who ultimately adopts little …

VIDEO: Santa Donates 3K Tennis Balls to Wisconsin Humane Society

Santa made the delivery using a pickup truck on behalf of Elite Sports Club. Also meet several of the adoptable animals available at the shelter this week.

Santa swung by the Wisconsin Humane Society last week to make a special delivery: nearly 3,000 tennis balls for the adoptable dogs and puppies at the shelter. "He will be going from suite to suite, delivering the toys to the adoptable dogs and puppies at the Milwaukee Campus," according to a press release from the society. "The tennis balls were donated by Elite Sports Clubs in hopes of keeping the canines properly exercised and entertained as they wait for loving homes this holiday season." Some of the balls made their way up to Ozaukee County campus in Saukville, where plenty of puppies await a home. Currently available pets are showcased on the society's website. There are ways anyone can donate to the shelter and help out the animals, …

Man Pledges to Donate $50K to Humane Society, With One Stipulation

The Wisconsin Humane Society is hoping adoptions between both the Ozaukee and Milwaukee campuses will hit 500 animals during the month of September in order to get this generous $50,000 donation to the shelter.

Adoptions from area Humane Societies are worth a whole lot during the month of September after one man has stepped up with the offer to donate $50,000. Stan Kass, who already gave a $100,000 gift to the Wisconsin Humane Society last year, has said he will donate the $50,000 if 500 animals are adopted by the end of the month from the Ozaukee and Milwaukee county locations combined, according to a press release from the shelter.  "We are so thankful to Stan for his generosity, which he also hopes will inspire the whole community to show just how much they care about homeless animals," said Anne Reed, WHS’s executive director. "Whether you’re able to adopt a homeless animal, or make a gift to WHS, we know that Southeastern Wisconsin can step …
