Soccer Leagues Kick Off New Season Next Week

Locally organized adult soccer leagues will offer spring and summer seasons, as well as tennis and kickball leagues.

A soccer league for adults launched last spring by Port resident Jennifer Huettl will return this season, with scrimmages starting already on Monday. "We anticipate possibly doubling our number of players from last season and have potential local sponsors in the works to sponsor team/league jerseys," Heuttl said in an e-mail to Patch. "We are also starting up an adult kickball league this summer as well as adult tennis leagues." The league involves all sorts of skill levels, with players Missy Winkworth and Ryan Diaz as perfect examples. "It is competitive soccer but it remains light and fun at the same time. The level of skill varies. No matter the skill level, everyone plays and has a great time with it," Diaz said, who played for many …

Local Businesses Help Kick Off Adult Soccer Leagues

The Help Key and Grand Avenue Saloon in Port are both sponsoring teams in the newly launched leagues, which have drawn players from as far as Milwaukee and Sheboygan.

After launching an intiative in May to start up adult soccer leagues in Port Washington, Jennifer Huettl is now happy to say the sport has taken off — in a lot of ways. Not only are teams forming from as far away as Milwaukee and Sheboygan — as well as including some players from closer by, such as Cedarburg — but some area businesses have also stepped up to sponsor the teams. The Help Key and Grand Avenue Saloon in Port are both sponsoring teams, Huettl said, and more are coming down the wire. The teams currently play Tuesday and Thursday nights, with the current season running through July 26; Games are played at the fields behind St. Peter's and McDonald's.
