Port Lifelong Resident Celebrates 100th Birthday

Edna Guenther, who turned 100 on Saturday, has a long family history with this city.

Things change over the years, but there probably aren't many people who can remember a time as different as Port Washington resident Edna Guenther can. Guenther, who has lived in Port Washington all her life, celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday. Her family is well known to the Port Washington area, having run the cream city brickyard on land that is now home to a bandshell in Veteran's Memorial Park, according to Guenther's niece Ann Horton. Guethner's family home used to sit where the Port Washington High School, and still stands at 502 N. Holden St. Horton, who lives in both Michigan and Florida, came to Port Washington for Saturday's birthday party. Horton's mother was Guenther's sister. “All the things that (Edna) can (talk) …

Patch Celebrates Anniversary With Special Birthday Message

With the one-year anniversary of the Port Washington-Saukville Patch this week, Patch takes a look at Port and Saukville residents celebrating birthdays, too. Tuesday we say happy birthday to Rebecca Dowe.

It's a great day to be alive. Patch is celebrating its one-year anniversary of the launch of the Port Washington-Saukville site this week. Patch launched last year with stories about a new specialty shop opening in downtown Port, an award honoring several students and teachers, a Saukville native heading to the Rosebowl and more. So much more has happened since that first week, and this month-by-month series takes a look back at 2011. To add to the celebration, Patch reached out to the community to find residents celebrating their own birthdays this week, and found Rebecca Dowe, who turns 11 on Tuesday. Dowe said favorite things to do in Port are visiting the lake — where her family walks their dog, Bandit — and attending the many summer …
