Emma Rose Paulson, diagnosed with cancer as a teenager and now in the maintenance phase of her treatment, launched a collection program to brighten the day of other cancer patients and families during their hospital stays.
As a teenager diagnosed with cancer, Emma Rose Paulson found herself spending time in and visiting the hospital on a regular basis. The life-changing experience wouldn't leave her in a state of negativity, though; instead, Emma was inspired to launch "A Patient Helping Patients," a charity that donates comfort items to cancer patients and their families, ranging from lip balm to nail polish as well as activities or movies to pass the time. "Since my diagnosis, many people have helped my family and me in many ways. Now, I want to do something to give back. I want to help other kids with cancer who are also being treated at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin," Emma wrote on the Facebook page for the organization. The first delivery to hospital…

An event titled, "Go Further with Ford Night" lands the Saukville Community Food Pantry a $1,000 donation.
Local business owners on Friday presented Saukville Community Food Pantry founder Mark Gierach with a $1,000 check to benefit the shelter and the community it serves. For each person who attended the Go Further with Ford Night on Nov. 15, Schmit Bros had planned to donate $10 — up to a total of $500 — to the pantry. The company donated the $500, and owners Jim and Mike Schmit matched that donation for a total of $1,000 to benefit the pantry. Ford gave individual locations the ability to choose a charity to benefit with the event, and Jim Schmit said he immediately thought local. "You're new," Jim Schmit said to Gierach, adding that he was happy to be able to provide some funding to help the pantry continue in its success. "There are so …

It isn't too late to make a donation that will make this year's end brighter for someone suffering, whether from hunger, poverty, disease or disaster.
In the flurry of holiday shopping and parties, the rush to complete end-of-year business, we are also reminded that this is the season to remember those less fortunate than ourselves. Year-end fundraising appeal letters arrive by mail and e-mail from those to whom we have given before, encouraging renewed giving — a task many people set aside for the week after Christmas, when things have slowed down. Yet there are many for whom the holidays could be considerably brightened by some giving right now — families that might face hunger rather than a feast, children whose stockings could be empty of toys, people whose very lives and livelihoods have been visited by illness or disaster beyond their control. And there is still time. With …

Beanie's Mexican Restaurant in Port Washington is donating 100 percent of its profits on two upcoming days to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy on the East Coast, citing special ties with Ocean City, NJ.
While life in the Midwest continues as normal, plenty of people on the East Coast continue to deal with the repercussions of Hurricane Sandy. Four hospitals in New York remained closed with their patients scattered among other clinics on Sunday, and, according to New York Daily Times, a reopen date still remains unclear. Nearly 200,000 remained without power in the northeast region as of Saturday, about two weeks after the storm, according to ABCnews.com. And extensive flood damage throughout the area has some worried that the National Flood Insurance Program will not be able to afford what is being ranked as the "nation's second-worst storm for claims paid" by the program, according to the New York Times. And while the hurricane's reach …

On behalf of the Saukville Community Food Pantry, I wish to give thanks to Cub Scout Pack 3868 from Saukville for their great efforts in this year’s food collection drive for our food pantry. The Scouts collected almost 2,000 pounds of food that will help fill our shelves and complete our Thanksgiving Meal Box’s this year.
