Voting Likely to End in School District Buildings

The decision comes as Port Washington-Saukville School Board members continue discussions on ways to make the district safer since the tragic Newtown, CT school shooting thrust the topic into the limelight.

Editor's note: This article has been updated to reflect a clarification. Believing that voting in the schools is no longer an educational opportunity and focusing on making Port Washington and Saukville a safer place for kids, school officials are moving forward with putting an end to voting in the district's buildings.  School Board members spoke highly in favor of ending voting in schools during a late January meeting, and a district committee has now recommended it be discontinued for "security reasons," according to an Ozaukee Press article. Well my wife and I voted mid-day today and there were so many dangerous people there! Lets see my wife, our two children and I made 2 voters, 2 grade schoolers and 8 pole workers. Yep good reason to end voting in schools. Oh and guess what! There were no school kids there, other than ours, because voting day was on a OFF day for school. Olivia Act: Local Business Offers Free Photo Shoot in Memory of Newtown Victims

Diane Kinzer Photography is taking nominations for a family deserving of a free photo shoot as part of a movement by photographers across the country to honor the memory of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting.

One month after the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that stole 26 lives and shattered many others, people across the country are continuing movements to honor the memory of those lost. One such movement, called The Olivia Act, remembers 6-year-old Olivia Engel, who died in the arms of a police officer as a result of the Dec. 14 shooting, according to the New Haven Register. The Engel family had photos taken shortly before the tragedy — images that later circled the nation in remembering the little girl. A Facebook page and blog about the movement points out how extremely important those photos must be to the family — and explains how one photographer saw that as a meaningful opportunity to help others and remember the victim…

Rumors of School Shootings Circulate at Area Districts, But Not Here

Port Washington-Saukville officials say there have been no incidents here, but Waukesha, Oak Creek and Menomonee Falls among the districts dealing with rumors of threats of violence on Friday.

Just days after the tragic elementary school shooting in Newtown, CT, school district administrators throughout southeastern Wisconsin — and the country — are addressing rumors of shooting threats at their districts. In none of the districts has an actual threat been discovered, however, several districts have sent letters to parents and beefed up security, and are working with local police to address the situation. Districts where rumors have been circulating include Waukesha, Oak Creek, Menomonee Falls, Hamilton, Arrowhead, Greenfield and Cudahy. Need for Safety in Local Schools Reinforced by Newtown Tragedy

The Port Washington-Saukville School District explains its emergency policies after reports that a shooter killed more than 20 people, including kids, at an elementary school in Newtown, CT.

A Connecticut community is reeling from tragedy and communities across the nation are reacting with thoughts of fear, sadness and anger after a 20-year-old man went on a shooting rampage, ending 27 lives were ended Friday at a Newtown, CT, elementary school, according to early reports.
