Jaron S. Omon of Port Washington was sentenced on Monday in connection to the accident that took the life of 37-year-old Kelly Phillips, also of Port.
The driver of the car in a one-vehicle crash that killed a Port Washington woman in June was sentenced to 9 years in prison on Monday in relation to the incident. Jaron S. Omon, of Port Washington, plead guilty in September to the charges of homicide by intoxicated use of vehicle in the death of 37-year-old Kelly Phillips. Omon's preliminary blood test showed a .22 blood alcohol content. In court on Monday, his defense attorney said his guilty plea showed he had taken responsibility for his decision to drive drunk, according to JSOnline.com. More than 20 community members met for the first time on Wednesday night as part of the Waterfront Safety Ad-hoc Committee that aims to help prevent another tragedy similar to the drowning death of 15-year-old Tyler Buczek.
The drowning death of 15-year-old Tyler Buczek over Labor Day weekend shook the Port Washington community, but now city members are pulling together in an effort to offer waterfront safety and education and prevent another Lake Michigan death. Three young lives were lost late Monday night, but the memories of those who died will not soon be forgotten. "It's sad to hear someone so young having someone happen like that," said Isaac Miller, the uncle of the 23-year-old Port Washington victim, Stephen Miller. Stephen Miller along with Jayme Ceplina, 21, of West Bend, and Nicholas Snow, 25, of Germantown all passed away after a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Hawthorne Road and County Highway I in the town of Saukville. Ceplina and Miller were prounounced dead at the scene. The driver, Snow, died as a result of his injuries the day after the crash. Stephen Miller, 23, of Port Washington and Jayme Ceplina, 21, of West Bend were both pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle crash that took place near the intersection of Hawthorne Road and County Highway I in the town of Saukville, according to a press release from the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office. The driver, Nicholas Snow, a 25-year-old Germantown man, was transported via Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital. Lt. Christy Knowles confirmed that the driver had died as a result of his injuries by Tuesday afternoon. Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the one-vehicle crash that killed Sara Pujanauski of the town of Saukville on Saturday morning.
A 19-year-old town of Saukville woman is dead after a one-vehicle crash in the town of Fredonia early Saturday morning. A memorial near the crash site has been started with flowers and some personal effects. Visitation and a funeral mass will be held Saturday at Divine Savior Parish, Holy Cross Chapel in Holy Cross, according to an obituary published in Tuesday's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Police pronounced Sara Pujanauski dead at the scene of the one-vehicle crash on County Highway I and Belgium Kohler Road on Saturday morning, according to Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office dispatch.
