Hit-and-Run Driver Cited in Wednesday Incident Involving Student

The 36-year-old Greenfield woman was found after a witness was able to identify the company logo from the sticker on her car.

A 36-year-old Greenfield woman faces municipal citations in connection with the hit-and-run accident involving a student on Wednesday morning. A student was hit while walking across Grand Avenue around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday morning. Witnesses were only able to obtain a brief description of the car: as a silver or white car or maybe SUV with some type of a blue and white round sticker on the back.  On Thursday, a witness called Port police who was able to identify the company logo from the suspect vehicle, and "contact was made with the driver who cooperated with the investigation," a press release from the department said. Hit-and-Run Driver Sought in Incident Involving Student

A student was hit while crossing Grand Avenue this morning, and the Port Washington Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating the vehicle as the driver fled the scene.

A student was hit while walking across Grand Avenue Wednesday morning, and the Port Washington Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating the vehicle as the driver fled the scene. According to the Port Washington Police Department's Facebook page, the car struck the student between 7:15 and 7:20 a.m. in the crosswalk at Grand and Webster. "Other vehicles were stopped on Grand Avenue waiting for the student to cross when a vehicle passed on the right going westbound striking the student in the left leg and running over her foot," the page said.  The vehicle is described as a small silver or white car with some type of a blue and white round sticker on the back, the Facebook post said. Judge: Hit-and-Run Suspect 'Failed Miserably' to 'Show Compassion'

A 21-year-old Saukville man found guilty of a hit-and-run crash over the 2012 Fish Day weekend was sentenced on Wednesday, while his parents and the judge expressed confidence in his ability to rebound.

Editor's note: This article has been updated to reflect a correction in the sentence time. A Saukville man found guilty of a hit-and-run crash over the 2012 Fish Day weekend will spend 3 months in jail and be responsible for the nearly $30,000 in medical bills accumulated by the victim in the incident. Michael Frey, 21, recieved 3 months in jail and 3 years probation, during which time he is to stay sober, stay out of bars or liquor stores, be available for random drug testing, seek counseling for addiction and have no contact with the victim, Chris Morano. He has served 29 days in jail and tat will count towards his sentence; restituation owed to the victim is roughly $29,000. Frey was found guilty in December on charges of hit-and-run, …

Sentencing Delayed in Hit-and-Run Incident After Defendant Forgets to Show

Michael Frey, convicted of hit-and-run and possession of narcotics and of a controlled substance, was taken into custody on Wednesday after his sentencing was delayed because he "forgot" to check in with court officials.

A Saukville man found guilty of a hit-and-run crash over the 2012 Fish Day weekend is back in custody after forgetting to check in with law enforcement regarding a presentencing investigation. Michael Frey, 21, appeared in court on Wednesday for a sentencing hearing that ultimately was delayed because the pre-sentencing investigation had not "been completed due to defendant not making contact with Department of Corrections," according to court records. The investigations are conducted so that the courts can have the "fullest understanding possible of the defendant's life and circumstances at sentencing," according to the Wisconsin State Public Defender's Office website. There are no suspects in connection with the minor hit-and-run said to have happened in Port over the weekend.

A Port Washington man blamed as the driver in a hit-and-run incident inside city limits is decidely innocent because his car was dirty. A 31-year-old man called Port Washington police at 7:23 p.m. Saturday to report that while he was standing near his vehicle in the 400 block of North Franklin Street a vehicle driving by hit him in the elbow, according to police reports. The man said the car did not stop — and though he was not hurt he wanted an apology. The man, joined by a friend, then searched the area for a car that looked like the one involved in the hit-and-run. Port PD: Driver Says Pedestrians Should Look Before Crossing

On one hand there's the everlasting lesson of looking both ways before you cross the street, but on another hand whatever happened to pedestrians having the right of way? A Port Washington woman called police at 8:19 a.m. Oct. 22 to report nearly being struck by a car while crossing westbound on Holden at Walters with her son, according to police reports. Police found the driver and spoke with her. The woman felt the pedestrians should have stopped at the corner to check for cars, and that they did not, the report said. More from the reports:

Police: Port Man Flees Scene After Drunken Accident

Suspect, 21, allegedly takes a woman's car without her permission, drives drunk and hits another car before fleeing back to an apartment on foot.

A 21-year-old Port Washington man is facing charges after he allegedly took a woman's truck, crashed it into a van while driving drunk, then fled the scene on foot. John J. Scholten was charged in Ozaukee County Circuit Court on Oct. 2 with one count of operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent, one count of hit-and-run and two counts of bail jumping. If convicted, he faces up to eight years in prison and $31,000 in fines. At 7:40 a.m. Oct. 1, several people were in a van going through the intersection of Washington and Franklin when the van was struck by Scholten, who was driving westbound in a truck, according to the criminal complaint. Jury Trial Set in Fish Day Weekend Hit-and-Run

Michael Frey, a 20-year-old Saukville man charged with a hit-and-run accident over Fish Day weekend who was also later found to be in possession of narcotics, is scheduled to start trial in December.

The 20-year-old Saukville man charged with hit-and-run causing injury, and later charged with possession of narcotics and possession of a controlled substance for items found in his car after it was impounded, may face a jury trial in December. Michael Frey appeared in court on Monday with Attorney Michael Penkwitz for further proceedings in connection with the charges; he had entered a not guilty plea in September, and the case has now been set for trial to start at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 11. If convicted of all three charges, Frey faces four years, three months and 30 days in prison as well as $20,500 in fines.  Frey said he did not see the victim, Chris Morano — who later turned out to be a friend — until the impact occurred on July 22, …

Port Man Gets 4 Years Behind Bars in Hit-and-Run Accident

Kevin P. Brown will serve four years in prison with six years of supervision in connection with the hit-and-run accident that injured 81-year-old Dolores Kopacz in December. Kopacz died Saturday, but her death was not a direct cause of the accident.

The 55-year-old Port Washington man guilty of injuring an 81-year-old Port woman in a drunken hit-and-run accident in December will serve four years in prison with six years of supervision. Kevin P. Brown plead no contest in June to two felony counts: hit-and-run causing bodily injury and injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle. Ozaukee County Circuit Judge Paul Malloy sentenced him on Thursday to four years in prison with six years of supervision on each count — but the sentence is to be served concurrently, so he will not be in prison more than four years. When out on supervision, Brown will be subject to random alcohol tests and should maintain absolute sobriety. He and the family also must sort through medical bill restitution, which …

Hit-and-Run Suspect Could Face Homicide Charges After Victim Dies

Dolores M. Kopacz, 82, who was hit by Kevin P. Brown in December, has died. The District Attorney is investigating whether the death is connected to injuries from the crash.

The 82-year-old Port Washington woman who was injured in December by a hit-and-run driver has died, and sentencing for the man responsible was subsequently delayed while the District Attorney investigates whether her death was related to the crash. Dolores M. Kopacz was struck by Kevin P. Brown while he was driving drunk to work on Dec. 19. Kopacz died on Saturday. Brown was found guilty of "hit and run causing great bodily harm and intoxicated use of a motor vehicle ," in June, and was scheduled to appear in court for his sentencing on Tuesday.
