Port Man Gets 4 Years Behind Bars in Hit-and-Run Accident

Kevin P. Brown will serve four years in prison with six years of supervision in connection with the hit-and-run accident that injured 81-year-old Dolores Kopacz in December. Kopacz died Saturday, but her death was not a direct cause of the accident.

The 55-year-old Port Washington man guilty of injuring an 81-year-old Port woman in a drunken hit-and-run accident in December will serve four years in prison with six years of supervision. Kevin P. Brown plead no contest in June to two felony counts: hit-and-run causing bodily injury and injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle. Ozaukee County Circuit Judge Paul Malloy sentenced him on Thursday to four years in prison with six years of supervision on each count — but the sentence is to be served concurrently, so he will not be in prison more than four years. Hit-and-Run Suspect Could Face Homicide Charges After Victim Dies

Dolores M. Kopacz, 82, who was hit by Kevin P. Brown in December, has died. The District Attorney is investigating whether the death is connected to injuries from the crash.

The 82-year-old Port Washington woman who was injured in December by a hit-and-run driver has died, and sentencing for the man responsible was subsequently delayed while the District Attorney investigates whether her death was related to the crash. Dolores M. Kopacz was struck by Kevin P. Brown while he was driving drunk to work on Dec. 19. Kopacz died on Saturday. Brown was found guilty of "hit and run causing great bodily harm and intoxicated use of a motor vehicle ," in June, and was scheduled to appear in court for his sentencing on Tuesday. Sentencing has been rescheduled for 3:30 p.m. Thursday. If Kopacz's injuries contributed to her death, District Attorney Adam Gerol said he could change the charges against Brown from "injury" to…

Jury Trial Scheduled in June for Hit-and-Run

Kevin P. Brown appeared in court Thursday in connection with the December incident that injured 82-year-old Dolores Kopacz.

A tentative date for a jury trial has been scheduled for the 54-year-old Port Washington man charged in a hit-and-run incident that injured 82-year-old Dolores Kopacz on Dec. 19. Kevin P. Brown, 556 W. Chestnut St., will appear in court at 1:15 p.m. April 19 for further proceedings, at which time the status of the jury trial could change. If nothing is resolved in the case on that April date, a jury status hearing has been set for 1:15 p.m. June 4; a three-day trial has also been scheduled, starting at 8:45 a.m. June 5. Brown remains in custody since being charged with the incident pending a $40,000 bail. That amount is a reduction in bail from the original $75,000, after a request by attorney James Martz. Martz had requested a $5,000 bail…
