Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and runs up to Easter.
This year Lent commences with Ash Wednesday, February 13 and lasts until Holy Thursday evening, March 30. Lent is marked by many Christians in the 40-day run-up to Easter. Often considered a time to practice sacrifice, many Catholics for years gave up eating meat on Fridays. Check out our Readers Choice list for Best Fish Fry in the Port Washington and Saukville area, as well as a list of churches in the area. McDonald's also recently rolled out its new nugget-sized filet-o-fish just a week before Lent. What about you — are you planning to give anything up for Lent? Tell us in the comment section below.

After a weeklong competition with several strong contenders, The Patio Bar & Grill pulls ahead for the win.
It was a tough competition, with top three finalists sitting neck-and-neck most of the race, but in the end The Patio Bar & Grill pulled ahead as the readers' choice for Best of Fish Fry in Port Washington and Saukville. The other top two contenders included: in second place, New Port Shores; in third place, Victor's Pier Street Shanty. "I’m just glad everybody enjoys our fish, we try to do our best and evidently we are," Junior Uselding of The Patio said. Uselding purchased and remodeled the building two summers ago, adding the patio and expanding the dining area inside, and opening on July 1, 2010. "I've always liked the building and the location," he said. In determining the winner, Patch considered a number of items, including poll …

Vote for your favorite place of the three top vote-getters for this week's Best Of contest.
New Port Shores, Victor's Pier Street Shanty and The Patio Bar & Grill are the top three finalists in this week's Best of Fish Fry contest. Finalists were determined based on poll votes, comments, listing reviews and Facebook or Twitter feedback. The original list of seven local places for a fish fry was decided by Patch readers last week. Voting now continues until 9 a.m. Friday, with the top winner announced by noon on Friday. Because this poll is not scientific, it will not be the sole consideration in choosing a final winner. Please vote only once per survey, per Patch. Winners will be determined by Patch editors based on poll votes, comments, listing reviews and Facebook or Twitter feedback. For the final round, we want to hear why …
